Kirk met Bill Montgomery, a retiree more than 50 years his senior who was then a Tea Party-backed legislative candidate, at a subsequent speaking engagement at Benedictine University’s “Youth Empowerment Day.” Montgomery pushed Kirk to devote his full time to political activism. He later founded Turning Point USA, a “grass-roots organization to compete with liberal groups like MoveOn.org.” Kirk met Foster Friess, a significant Republican contributor, at the 2012 Republican National Convention and encouraged him to fund the organization.

Kirk stated in a 2015 speech at the Silicon Valley Liberty Forum that he applied to the United States Military Academy in West Point, New York, but was not accepted. He said that “the spot he deemed his went to a ‘much less-qualified candidate of a different gender and persuasion,’” whose test scores he claimed he knew.

Kirk told The Atlantic in 2015 that he was attending part-time online classes at The King’s Institution and seminars at Harper College, a community college outside Chicago, but dropped out in 2015 to pursue conservative activism.

Charlie Kirk was the convention’s youngest speaker, speaking during the Republican National Convention in 2016. Charles Kirk has also appeared as a journalist on Fox News and CNBC. He also broadcasts “The Charlie Kirk Show,” which is consistently ranked as one of the top 15 news podcasts on the Apple Podcast charts. In 2016, 2018, and 2020, he published three books: “Time for a Turning Point: Charting a Course Toward Free Markets and Limited Government for Future Generations,” “Campus Battlefield: How Conservatives Can WIN the Battle on Campus and Why It Matters,” and “The MAGA Doctrine: The Only Ideas That Will Win the Future.”
